To whom do we usually offer acclaim? Men or God…

Professing to be wise, they became fools,
and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,
who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Romans 1:22-25

Father, Here the Apostle Paul describes how some of mankind changed Your glory into images of man, birds, four-footed animals and creeping things. Since Paul wrote these words, men have invented additional images to worship.

Paul says, “You gave them up”; You allowed them to pursue their own form of worship wherein they idolized, worshiped and served things that You created, instead of You.

Father, help us today to examine ourselves and see if we are lifting up anyone or anything above You. Do we, in a sense, worship success, money, and acclaim (idolize) the achievements of others, more than You? Help us not to elevate anything or anyone above our relationship with You. We pray in Jesus’ Holy name, amen.
