Revenge | August 3
Do not keep silent, O God of my praise!
For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful have opened against me; they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause.
In return for my love they are my accusers, but I give myself to prayer.
Thus they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
As he loved cursing, so let it come to him; as he did not delight in blessing, so let it be far from him.
As he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, so let it enter his body like water, and like oil into his bones.
Let it be to him like the garment which covers him, and for a belt with which he girds himself continually.
Psalm 109:1-5, Psalm 109:17-19
Father, Just as King David, a man after Your own heart, was a light in the darkness, we too sometimes feel rejected, criticized, taunted and teased when we witness of Your love. Give us Your strength in these moments and help us be patient and kind. We know that David turned to You for the execution of judgment but now, You have given all judgment to Jesus. We may feel anger but You teach us to leave all judgment to You and You teach us and enable us not to take on the task of helping You judge others. You ask us to forgive our enemies and to pray for their deliverance rather than be angry and judgmental. We could never be that way without Your empowerment.
In addition, when we are surrounded by cursing and coarse language, seemingly from every direction. Help us never join in or to appear as one who endorses cursing. Cursing is so alien to Your nature Father. We know it will all cease one day but in the interval, help us to help others to move closer to Your will in every way. In Jesus Holy name, we pray, amen.
