How much of God’s word is hidden in your heart (and does it matter)?

Prayer part I  |  December 10

Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes!
Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments.
I will praise You with uprightness of heart, when I learn Your righteous judgments.
I will keep Your statutes; Oh, do not forsake me utterly!
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.
With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You!
Blessed are You, O LORD! Teach me Your statutes!
With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth.
I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on Your precepts, and contemplate Your ways.
I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.
Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.

Psalm 119:5-18

Father, Our hearts rejoice when we know we are doing Your will and being perfectly obedient. On the other hand, when we disobey and turn from Your word and counsel we feel a burden that can only be relieved by confession and repentance. There is no teaching as rich and fruitful as Your word.

The Psalmist rejoices, meditates and contemplates in Your ways. Father, your word is indeed Holy. Draw us to Your teachings daily and help us hide Your word in our heart, a place where no man can steal it from us. Your word is a Light unto our path. May we never walk in darkness, stumbling about, when You want to lead us beside the still waters, even in the midst of trials we can hardly bear.

Bring us to the wisdom of the Holy Scriptures this day and bless each of us and our loved ones this moment. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
