God’s Children  |  May 26

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
”Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise:
”that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:1-4

Jesus, we notice that Paul said, “Obey your parents, in the Lord.” Help us, today, to know that we need to be “in the Lord” if we are to properly teach our children Your will. Jesus, the concept of children being obedient carries so much more weight when the parents are “in the Lord”.

What Jesus is it, “to be in the Lord”? You have taught us many times that our personal salvation is necessary if we are to be interpreting and teaching our children, Your wisdom, Your expectations. Father, help us each day to add a measure of maturity to our relationship with You by listening to You and speaking to You.

Jesus, even though it is apparent that we need to teach our children, in Your ways, we also need to be very careful to not  provoke our children and to set much higher standards for them than we do ourselves. Help us this day to be a good Godly example in our words, thoughts and actions. Give us wisdom, in You, and patience with our children. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
